Tivaevae (Our progress so far)

Tivaevae on PhotoPeach

Room 4 have been learning about the Cook Islands and specifically about tivaevae. Tivaevae is a special quilt that is used in many Cook Island ceremonies such as birthdays, funerals, and special hair cutting ceremonies. For art we are making our own class tivaevae. Students learnt about the designs on tivaevae and about the Cook Island Hibiscus flower. So far we have made a draft of our tivaevae on paper. Next week we start painting on individual calico squares which will then be sewn together to make our tivaevae. Thank you to Mrs Turnbull who cut out the calico squares.
